goodbye colifornia: i never thought i wouldn't see you again [1994-2024] |
“Goodbye California; I never thought I wouldn’t see you again.” offers a melancholic journey around California through 46 photographs taken three decades ago. Capturing a time before the perception of this world was forever changed by the banality of everything digital, the photographs shown expose the fragility of the photographer as witness. Through a short story, the reader is invited into a very personal tale of how the author started, in California, his life-long career in photography from a young age, further giving context to the images themselves. From street scenes to portraits and to the magnificence of nature, these “time-capsule” images evoke the ephemerality of the image and its relation to one owns memory reflecting on how photographs might preserve moments that go beyond our memory. As time passes, both images and memories fade, leaving behind fragments of a past that is no longer fully reliable. This collection of photographs were taken between June and July 1994. The scanned images were not treated in any way maintaining the integrity of what is left from the original images. The book is currently being produced with a predicted launch mid October 2024. It will be published in an edition of 250 books with the first 10 including limited edition prints. |
